Persea – The Blooming Cradle
Overview:
Persea is the second-largest shard of the broken worldplate, a continent of breathtaking contrasts and lush vitality. It spans over 2,500 miles in width and 3,000 miles tall, and straddles both the tropical and temperate bands of Tellus. From the high Southeastern Crestlands to the steamy Greenwave jungles and the mysterious Deepmire basin, Persea is a land as beautiful as it is perilous.
Cradled between Cathan to the west and Hyperia to the northeast, Persea’s inner edge, facing the center of the disc, bears the scars of the world's shattering. A jagged rise of broken earth and stone known as the Godsplit Ridge testifies to its violent creation. But beneath this fractured crown lies one of the most verdant, life-rich regions on the entire disc.
Geography
Shape & Slope:
Triangular in form, Persea slopes gradually from the highlands of the Crestlands in the east to the sunken swamps of the Deepmire in the west. The southeastern tip was violently upthrust during the cataclysm, creating a dramatic elevation shift, the Crestlands rise more than 20 miles above the central basin.
Climate:
- Temperate South: Forested highlands, rolling hills, cool breezes.
- Tropical Center & Nouth: Humid jungles, sweltering plains, hot wetlands.
- Rainfall is abundant throughout, especially in the Greenwave basin and Godsplit slopes.
Major Terrain Features
Godsplit Ridge (Inner Edge)
A vast, broken mountain chain marking the inner edge of Persea, the jagged scar of the disc’s fracture.
- Mount Aelethorn: The tallest peak, perpetually cloaked in storms and sacred to some native cultures.
- Crescent Basin: A hidden valley nestled within the ridge, believed to be a magical impact site or the ruins of a collapsed city.
- The ridge rises as if the land itself were pried up by divine force.
The Greenwave (Central Basin)
Persea's lifeblood, an endless sprawl of rainforest, rich plains, and tangled rivers.
- Marrowflow River: The largest waterway on the continent, fed by dozens of tributaries.
- Ecosystem includes unique magical flora and fauna, some claim Persea itself "dreams" new life into being.
- Western regions host sinkholes, crystal springs, and shimmering wetlands.
The Virewood Vault
Located deep within the Greenwave, this colossal crater is wrapped in roots and magical flora.
- A living, semi-sentient biome influenced by arcane legacy or ancient technology.
- Blooms once every decade, altering its terrain and spawning new, alien life.
The Deepmire (Southwest)
A collapsed and sunken swamp at the continent’s base.
- Gas vents, bioluminescent fungi, toxic bogs, and unstable ground dominate.
- Partially submerged ruins suggest it may be older than the cataclysm.
The Fractured Coast (Southern Edge)
A chaotic, cliff-laced coast where entire chunks of the land seem to have slid away into the sea.
- Inlets, sea stacks, jagged reefs, and lost coves fill the shore.
- Maw of Thys: A chasm where tides clash violently, forming a seasonal whirlpool.
- Ideal location for pirate havens, secret harbors, and drowned cities.
The Crestlands (South)
Cool, forested highlands with a gentler slope and hospitable terrain.
- Perfect for early agriculture, monastery settlements, and terraced farming.
- Rivers and footpaths wind through these foggy hills like veins of silver.
Inhabitants & Culture
- Dominant Races: Humans, Centaur, Sentient Horses, Feykin
- Western Jungles: Populated by reclusive druidic orders and sentient plantfolk.
- Central Plains: Home to massive nomadic horse tribes and intermingled herds of sentient beasts.
- Deepmire and Godsplit: Largely uninhabited, rich in ruins, danger, and strange creatures.
- Southern Crestlands: Scattered hill towns, mystic monasteries, and weather-worn stone cities.
